Gap Insurance Policy Features | Total Loss Gap

What policy features should you look out for with Gap Insurance?

All Gap Insurance policies may look the same, same structure to the document, same headings and the same features?

Not in this case, yes the documentation may appear to be similar but within the wording, you will find all the important features that determine how your policy will perform and the included benefits. Below you will see a list of independently 5 Star Rated policy features for you to look out for and also an indication of how and where to find them within your documentation.

Key Gap Insurance Features

  1. Excess Contribution, you shouldn't have to pay any excess, instead your GAP policy should contribute the first £250 as standard.
  2. Factory Fitted Options, your GAP policy should protect 100% of any options fitted at factory.
  3. £1500 Dealer Fitted Options, your GAP policy should have the ability to protect upto £1500 worth of dealer fiited options. (if applicable)
  4. 30 Day Cooling Off Period, the legal requirement is at least 14 days, but the more comprehensive policy will give you as much as 30 days.
  5. FCA Regulated & FSCS Backed, being financially protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme gives you that extra peace of mind.
  6. Claim Limit, a comprehensive Gap policy will give you that flexibility of selecting a suitable claim limit or even an unlimited claim limit.
  7. Transferable, a comprehensive Gap policy will give you the ability to transfer your policy free of charge to your next eligible vehicle.

All features above come as standard with a Total Loss Gap Insurance policy and have been previously highlighted as 5 Star Rated GAP Features.

Where do you look to find the features that matter?

Excess Contribution and Free Transfer Ability

The image on the right shows where you can find the excess contribution feature as well as the policy transfer option. This is found on page one of the policy terms and conditions for Combined Return to Invoice & Vehicle Replacement Gap in the top right hand corner.

Factory & Dealer Fitted Options CoveredThe image on the left indicates where to find the £1,500 dealer fitted accesories and all factory fitted accesories are covered. Under the Net Invoice Selling Price definition, you will find the terminology used to indicate the protection of these points.

Protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme

The next image illustrates the point that the policies are backed by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme in the UK. This is found at the bottom of page 4 which is the final page of the document. This is a feature that really does give you the peace of mind, that the policy we provided is protected every which way.
