Making a Scratch & Dent Insurance Claim | totallossgap.co.uk

What is the process when claiming your Scratch & Dent Insurance policy?

What happens when you claim any insurance policy is the real test.

That's why we have worked alongside the underwriter and the claims team to develop an easy, stress-free claims procedure designed to action a Smart repair on minor cosmetic damage incurred on your car. Like a remote repair carried out on an Alloy Wheel Insurance policy, it would be an approved repairer that would come out to you at your home address or place of work, for example.

In need to make a claim on your Scratch & Dent Insurance policy, simply contact the claims team to initiate the claims procedure.

Upon noticing any damage, you must inform the claims team within 30 days of the incident for the claim to be authorised.

The claims team will also ask for several details,

  • such as personal details
  • vehicle details,
  • your registration number
  • a brief description of the damage

Specifically, the claims team will also ask for a description of the damage to ensure that the damage fits the size criteria and qualifies as a valid claim. The claims team may also request a digital photograph of the damage to ensure that the damage qualifies as a valid claim. Because the repair is always carried out remotely, there are limited size criteria that have to be met for the approved repairers to have the ability to repair the damage remotely. If the damage exceeds the set criteria, unfortunately, the damage would have to be repaired within a body shop, and therefore, this policy wouldn't cover it.

If you're unsure of the size criteria covered within your policy, please see the set criteria below and refer to the policy terms and conditions for a full list please see your policy documnets.

What's covered on a Scratch & Dent Insurance policy? ( policies purchased after March 2023 )

  • We cover a Scuff of no more than 30cm in diameter and 3mm in depth across no more than two body panels.
  • We cover a Minor dent of no more than 30cm in diameter and 3mm in depth across no more than two body panels.
  • We cover a Chip of no more than 15mm in diameter and 3mm in depth
  • Unless you had purchased a brand new car and bought your policy before you took delivery of your vehicle, there is an initial 30-day claim waiting period on the policy.
  • No excess when you make a claim.

We must highlight that this policy will not cover any damage on the flat/horizontal surfaces of the vehicle.

For policies purchased before March 2023, the terms and conditions and areas of damage covered are different; please see your policy documents for a full list of your policy terms and conditions.

Scratch & Dent Insurance policy is designed to cover minor cosmetic damage incurred during normal day-to-day use.

Providing it fits the claim criteria, you can protect your no-claims bonus on your motor insurance and claim separately on this policy. Again, we must highlight that it's not a one-size-fits-all policy, and there may be damage incurred on the vehicle that may not be covered. Instead, you must either claim your motor insurance or repair the damage separately.

Different providers of a Scratch & Dent Insurance policy will have different terms and conditions, and therefore, the claims process and repair procedure may be slightly different. If you do have any questions or queries, why not call a member of our award-winning customer service team on 0800 195 4926/0151 647 7556, we'll be more than happy to help.
