Vehicles We Can Cover with GAP Insurance

At Total Loss GAP, we can protect a wide range of vehicles, from everyday hatchbacks to luxury marques like Aston Martin.

Here are some key factors that your car must meet to qualify for our GAP Insurance products:

  • Your car must be listed in Glass’s Guide - the industry standard for valuing vehicles in the UK. If your vehicle is included there, it means it was built for the UK market and can be accurately valued in the event of a claim.
  • You must have bought your vehicle from a VAT-registered motor dealer - this could be a main dealer or a used car dealer.
  • The vehicle must not be used for taxi, private or public hire, driving school or courier purposes (although specialist cover may be available.
  • The vehicle must not be modified, a kit car or imported (other than as 'brand new' for the UK market and sold as such through a UK main dealer originally).

Other Eligibility Requirements

In addition to being listed in Glass’s Guide, your car must also meet our standard criteria:

  • Age: new to 8 years at the start of the policy (up to 10 years for some products).

  • Mileage: Under 80,000 miles when the policy is taken out. (Higher maximum mileages are available on some products)

  • Use: The vehicle must not be used for excluded purposes (such as hire and reward, racing, or delivery services).

In Summary

If your vehicle is UK-registered, appears in Glass’s Guide, and meets the age, mileage, and usage rules, you should have no issue protecting it with a GAP Insurance policy from Total Loss GAP.

FAQs: Vehicles Covered by GAP Insurance

Can you cover imported cars?
Only if they’ve been brought into the UK through official channels, such as a franchised dealership or VAT-registered garage. Parallel imports or vehicles first registered abroad and later reclassified in the UK are not eligible.

What if I buy a nearly new car from a dealer?
If the vehicle is sold by a UK dealer and appears in Glass’s Guide, we should be fine to cover it.

Do you cover classic or very old cars?
No. Our policies are designed for vehicles up to 8 years old (10 years for some products) and under 80,000 miles at the start of cover. GAP Insurance is not designed for classic cars.

Can I take out cover if my car has high mileage?
Unfortunately, if your car has already exceeded 80,000 miles at policy start, we cannot provide GAP Insurance on our standard cover. We can access some products that higher mileages may qualify. Please check with us.

Does the make or model matter?
Not usually. As long as your car is listed in Glass’s Guide and meets the age, mileage, and usage rules, we can cover anything from a Ford Fiesta to a Porsche.

Can I cover a car used for business?
Yes, as long as it isn’t used for excluded purposes such as hire and reward (e.g. taxi or courier work) or competitive events. Company cars and cars purchased through business finance are normally acceptable.
