American car giants Ford will this year launch their brand new, 2015 edition of the Galaxy. For those of you who don't know, the Galaxy is Ford's take on a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) that has plenty of room for the whole family and operates as one of the best value for money vehicles that money can buy.
The car has been an active member of the Ford lineup since 1995, when it first launched. The first generation Galaxy was developed jointly with Volkswagen, who produced the VW Sharan and the Seat Alhambra on the same platform.
Since the Galaxy mark I, there have been two further incarnations, this time wholly developed by Ford. The 2015 model will be the first to launch since 2006, and the American car firm is looking to appeal to a much larger audience with this new addition into the family. A range of innovative equipment additions has been included for the latest model to make the new Galaxy 'out of this world'.
So the first thing we wanted to point out is a large number of engines on offer with the car. There are six of them total, with four of them diesel units. A two-litre Bi-Turbo unit is the central standout, though. However, if you love your Ecoboost technology, the petrol engines could be for you. Both 1.5 and 2.0 litre Ecoboost engines are on the cards, with both being Euro 6 compliant.
The Galaxy is also bigger than ever by offering a seven-seater layout an increase in legroom and headroom alike. There are plenty of safety equipment that includes collision assistance, adaptive steering and stability control, as well as other standard features, and yes, if you were wondering, Ford's new SYNC 2 voice recognition software does come along with the car. With features such as these, the likes of the Renault Grand Scenic and the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso are considered some of the very best rivals that the new Galaxy will face amongst many more.
The new Galaxy will arrive in Ford showrooms Summertime this year, and along with this news, the price tag for the car was also confirmed to come in at £26,445 as a starting price for the vehicle. The new Galaxy should receive a warm welcome from the UK public. However, the new model will face intense competition to be the number one MPV on the road when it launches later this year.
Quite what the competition will make of it is to be seen. One thing is evident if you are in the market for an MPV, there has probably never been a better time to buy one.
