Vauxhall announce the axing of a popular car

This week, Vauxhall has announced that after two years of sales here in the United Kingdom, they are officially dropping the Insignia Country Tourer from their vehicle range on the UK market. Other countries will continue to benefit from the sales of this car, but unfortunately for the UK, it is to be no more.

The Insignia is one of the best selling vehicles that Vauxhall currently offers on markets worldwide. The Country Tourer has pitched against the likes of the Skoda Octavia and the Volkswagen Passat.

So why did Vauxhall decide to drop the vehicle from its line up here in Britain?  Vauxhall Insignia Country Tourer

The reason behind the dropping of the Insignia Country Tourer

Sales for the Insignia Country Tourer have not been up to scratch in Britain, and over its two years in showrooms here, it did not manage to sell many units. However, surprisingly, this is not the reason why it was dropped from the companies range.

Vauxhall has stated that the reason behind it is the financial aspect of the new 'Whisper' engines that are being used in the car. The brand noted that the costs of engineering the new engine into the car would be far too much compared to how many units they were selling in the first place. Therefore, the brand would not be seeing any return on investment for upgrading the vehicles engines.

What does this mean for the future of the Insignia range?

The brand has stated that although the Country Tourer model will no longer be offered in Britain, their Sports Tourer version will still be produced and sold on the UK market.

Some dealerships still have the Country Tourer available and will continue to sell them until all are sold, but Vauxhall will no longer be making the car for the UK market.

Vauxhall commented that other countries that use left-hand drive setups on the car would continue to have vehicle sales of the Country Tourer. However, no comment has been made on whether Vauxhall plans to offer a replacement vehicle in Britain to replace the Country Tourer.

The chances are that they could stick with the Sports Tourer and the standard Insignia.
