The Volkswagen ID2. all is set to take the electric car market by storm with its affordable price and impressive range.
This new electric vehicle from Volkswagen is expected to rival the Vauxhall Corsa-e, MG 4 and Peugeot e-208. This provides competition with the highly sought-after ‘affordable EV’ market that many manufacturers want to crack.
With a cost-effective EV for less than £25,000, offering a range of up to 280 miles on a single charge, the ID2. all promises much.
Volkswagen has big plans for electric vehicles, with ten new EVs set to be released by 2026. The ID2. all is just one of these new offerings based on a new entry-level architecture designed to boost efficiency and keep costs low.
The exterior and interior of the ID2. all have been designed with practicality and comfort in mind. The design is soft and aerodynamic, giving it a more elegant and friendly look than some boxier electric vehicles on the market. The interior is clean and minimalistic, with a wide dashboard that gives the front occupants a sense of spaciousness.
One of the most notable features of the ID2. all is the 10.9-inch digital instrument panel and 12.9-inch central infotainment system. This setup is not only sharp and modern but also features a classic volume control and a separate block of buttons to operate the climate control system - a departure from the current touch-sensitive setup that's been criticised in the ID3.
Under the hood, the ID2. all features an electric motor that drives the front axle, delivering impressive performance for an affordable electric car. With 226PS, the ID2. all can accelerate from 0 to 62mph in under 7 seconds.
The ID2. all is based on Volkswagen Group's upcoming MEB Entry platform, which will underpin a range of new EVs from the company. This platform is a lower variant of the MEB, with the electric motor powering the front wheels by default.
The ID2. all will be one of four models based on this platform, each offering a unique electric driving experience.
Regarding range and charging, the ID2. all is expected to have an internally estimated WLTP range of approximately 280 miles.
A DC rapid charge to take the battery up to 80% will take around 20 minutes.
Customers may have the option of two battery packs. The first comes with an energy storage capacity of 38 kWh and the other with a higher energy storage capacity of 56 kWh.
One of the most interesting features of the ID2. all is the use of more sustainable and cost-effective lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells. While these cells may not offer the highest range, they are more durable and cost-effective than other types of battery cells.
Volkswagen Group plans to become self-sufficient in battery production in the future to achieve stability in supply and better control over the cost.
Overall, the Volkswagen ID2. all is an impressive offering from the German automaker, providing an affordable and practical electric car option for drivers looking for something efficient and stylish. With its soft design, spacious interior, and impressive range and performance, the new model will look to make a splash in the competitive electric car market.
Does Volkswagen hit the right notes to gain a foothold in the ‘affordable’ EV market? Time will tell, and the competition will get hotter, too, with Tesla hinting at a new model at around £18,000 soon.
One thing is for sure if you are looking for a cost-effective EV then the Volkswagen ID2. all will be one on your list.
