Is the Volkswagen Polo the car for you?

Here at Total Loss Gap we have covered some of the very best city cars on the market right now. The likes of the Ford Fiesta, the Renault Clio and the Focus have all appeared in our reviews recently. How can we have a list of city cars without including the Volkswagen Polo though. Well today we are to fill that void with a review of the Polo as we check out how it compares to the previously mentioned models both in terms of the offering of gadgets and equipment aswell as the host of engines to come along with the entire range. We would say that in terms of keeping up with its rivals, the car does a very good job of making its point by offering eight trim levels in total with a performance hot hatch version also on the market. So with all of this being said, could the Volkswagen Polo be the right car for you?. That's where we will help you out.

How does the engine range and equipment selection look for the Polo?

So getting firstly into the range of engines on offer, across the entire range there is a selection of ten engines but which one you get depends on which trim level you decide to spend your money on. The S entry level model is only available with the one litre petrol engine. The car is also available in three and five door options. An S version with air conditioning is also offered. Two one litre engines giving out different power alongside a 1.2 and a 1.4 are on offer for the SE trim. SE Design models carry the same engines. Either a 1.0 or 1.4 BlueMotion engine is available with the BlueMotion trim. SEL models are fitted with either a 1.2 or 1.4 setup and as we go further down the line we see the Blue GT carrying a 1.4 engine and the range topper is the Gti with a 1.8 TSI engine giving out 192bhp.

The engines are not the only features that help the Polo range to stand out as depending on which option level you purchase you can expect to achieve more and more in added equipment. To give you a brief idea of what you can expect, electric windows, Bluetooth connectivity, stability control and an automatic post collision braking system all come along as standard items. A leather multi functioning steering wheel, central locking, front fog lights, cruise control,a sports suspension system and seventeen inch alloy wheels are all items that can be found throughout the entire range across multiple trims and are our personal favourites from the line up.

Do Volkswagen offer a good price with the Polo range?

Prices start at a very reasonable figure of £11,250 for the entry level 'S' range. Prices for the top range model begin at £18,850. All prices across the range begin between these two figures but do depend on which particular option you decide to go for. Either way though, for the amount of equipment and good potential power that you can receive from the Volkswagen Polo, it should definitely be a city car that makes it onto your wish list.
