Is the Volkswagen Tiguan the best crossover on sale right now?

Right now, the vehicle we are focusing our attention on comes from German manufacturers Volkswagen, and in particular, their crossover Tiguan model.

There are many new cars joining the crossover segment, though, for us, one of the best vehicles has to be the Volkswagen Tiguan. It offers excellent practicality. It's comfortable, and it's spacious and generous on equipment. Pretty much everything you could ever need from a family vehicle. Its offered in four states of trim and also has plenty of standard safety equipment on offer. Volkswagen Tiguan 2015/16 review

The big question now is whether the Tiguan could be the ideal car for you?

Well, to try and help you make that decision, we are now going to list the trim levels on offer as well as the engines and see what kind of value for money that they offer and see why they are a great rival for the likes of the Kia Sportage and the Nissan Qashqai.

Tiguan trim and engine lists

There are four trim levels up for grabs, all of which offer you great equipment as the buyer. So the first on the list is entry-level 'S' models.

  • The 'S' is equipped engine wise with a 1.4 TSI petrol engine in Bluemotion form. Another 1.4 in 4Motion is also available. These are all matched by three two-litre diesel engines. A DAB digital radio and MP3 connectivity are on offer as standard and some other neat features, including electric windows and height-adjustable seating.

  • The 'Match' is next up. It comes with all engines as the 'S' except for the BlueMotion two litre diesel but in its place is a 2.0 litre petrol in 4Motion guise. Seventeen inch alloy wheels, fog lights, tinted windows and a touchscreen sat-nav all feature.

  • Further down the line is the 'Escape' offered with just the one engine choice, the 2.0 TDI BlueMotion. It uses a six speed manual gearbox, but this model can also be chosen with a DSG automatic transmission in seven speed guise. This trim offers chrome surroundings around the windows, a multi-functioning leather steering wheel, and you can also find chrome designed roof rails thrown into the mix too.

  • Now the final option in the range is the highest-end 'R-Line' models. There is a range of petrol and diesel options. Alloy wheels for this range grow to eighteen inches, Bi-Xenon headlights, aluminium scuff plates, and an all-new R Line styling setup complete the car's bodywork. A leather R Line steering wheel and stainless steel made pedals also feature inside of the cabin. Parking sensors at the front and back end of the car are also featured with 'R-Line' vehicles.

How much is the Volkswagen Tiguan?

Prices for entry-level models get underway from £21,960. Match models are available from £23,955. Escape models begin with a figure of £27,610, and you can expect top-end prices for the 'R-Line' models to come in from £28,750. Optional extras will, of course, add more to the price.
