Renault is all set to launch its new Kadjar model this year. The Kadjar will be the crossover model in the range.
Renault has been working hard on the development of the Kadjar. The plan is to launch first in the Indian market. Then, depending on success, the vehicle could also make its way to the market in the UK and other European countries.
This is Renault's entrant into the smaller SUV/crossover segment. The French manufacturer has high expectations of the new car. The new Kadjar, it is hoped, can be the flagship model into the future, much like the Qashqai is for their fellow 'alliance' member Nissan.
Could Renault have even more ambitious ideas for the Kadjar? It would appear so yes.
News has broken this week which reveals that the brand is looking into the possibility of a new RS version of the car to go on sale. This would take place sometime after the initial (hopefully successful) launch of the mainstream crossover.
The project manager for the Kadjar, Vincent Geslin confirmed the news. He hopes that an RS version of the car is something that will help expand their vehicle range with Europe but also in China. The proposed RS variant would see the firm mirror a move like Nissan did with the Qashqai Nismo.
Renault is no stranger to performance-based models in the product range. The French carmaker has demonstrated this before with Renaultsport vehicles. There will be strong confidence that the RS model will be a success for them.
Renault have provided few hints about what we could expect to feature in a Kadjar RS. What is clear is that they have the desire, history and capability to produce a quality sports version of the crossover. Time will tell on the launch of a new RS Kadjar but if and when it does, it promises to be fun!
