The UK Government has introduced a new incentive for electric car buyers, offering grants of up to £3,750 on selected models.
With the new '75' plate registrations arriving on 1st September 2025, dealerships are working hard to attract customers. At Total Loss GAP, we've seen many buyers taking delivery of new EVs recently, often with discounts that go far beyond the government grant.
That led us to ask: just how good are the current EV deals in the UK? To find out, we searched AutoTrader on 29th August 2025. The results reveal some of the biggest electric car bargains of the year.
The Dacia Spring is already one of the UK's most affordable electric cars, but with nearly 20% off, it drops to just over £12,000, about the same price as a used Ford Fiesta.
The Corsa has been a UK favourite for decades. The electric version now comes with a substantial 38% discount, making it cheaper than many petrol equivalents to purchase and operate.
Pre-registered examples of the MG ZS EV are hitting the market at under £20,000. For a family SUV, this is one of the best-value EV deals in the UK right now.
VW models don't often see heavy discounts, which makes this deal stand out. With 28% off, the ID.3 Pure delivers German build quality at a more affordable price.
The MG4 X Power packs 429bhp, with dual motors, for hot-hatch performance. Current discounts bring the price in under £26,000, a serious bargain for performance EV enthusiasts.
Renault's all-electric Megane E-Tech blends style and practicality with a 220bhp motor and 60kWh battery. At over 25% off, it's a strong option for families considering an electric vehicle.
The larger ID.4 SUV combines space, range and German-engineering. Add to that a £10,000 discount and it makes one of the best deals in its class.
Launched in 2025, the Skoda Elroq is still new to the market, but already carries discounts of over £8,000. It's built on the VW Group's trusted MEB platform and rated highly for comfort and practicality.
The Cupra Born E-Boost provides sharp styling with a strong range, even in colder weather. Nearly 20% off makes it a tempting alternative to more mainstream EV hatchbacks.
Audi's premium SUV is one of the steepest-depreciating EVs on the market, but discounts like this soften the blow. A £14,000 saving is hard to ignore if you're looking for a luxury EV SUV.
We also found strong discounts on BMW's latest EVs:
Both models combine luxury, performance and long-range capability, with discounts usually reserved for end-of-line cars.
While the £3,750 government grant makes headlines, the real story is the sheer scale of dealership and manufacturer discounts.
Electric vehicles still face steeper depreciation than petrol or diesel equivalents. Leasing companies and dealers are compensating with aggressive incentives to keep sales moving.
The British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA) has written to the Government to warn that falling EV residual values could cost finance and leasing firms hundreds of millions of pounds.
For buyers, though, this means serious opportunities. Discounts of 20 to 40% off list prices are now common across the EV market, from budget runabouts to premium SUVs.
If you've been waiting for the right time to switch to electric, 2025 may be the best opportunity yet. With grants, heavy dealer discounts and generous finance offers, EVs are more affordable than ever.
One note of caution: electric vehicles are still prone to steep depreciation. If your new EV is written off, you could face a significant shortfall between your insurer's payout and what you originally paid.
