There have been many vehicles revealed over the past twelve months that are all set to go on sale from this year. When we think of some of these big releases, we have to think of the likes of the new Volvo XC90 model, the new Audi Q7 and of course, the new Jaguar XF that will be unveiled tonight in London.
Amongst these big vehicle launches, though, sees a new addition to the Octavia range from Skoda, which will launch from this coming June and will come with added more power and more equipment in the form of the new hot hatch model from the brand.
Our very first taster of what we can expect from the new model came from the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland earlier this year as we saw the cargo on display alongside the brand new Superb model. The brand from the Czech Republic will look to significantly increase sales on their range with this new model, and today we are looking into just how the brand is hoping to do this.
Highlighting the significant changes that Skoda is going to bring to the range, the big difference is, of course, the engine's power. The model, called the vRS 230, will see a brake horsepower increase compared to that of the standard vRS by 10bhp. This means that now the car will give out 226bhp. The speed has also been boosted by just the 1 mile per hour difference, now hitting out at the top 155 miles per hour speed limit. This means that this new model is officially going to be the second quickest Skoda model to be offered worldwide, just being beaten to the chase by the Superb model.
The electronically regulated mechanical limited slip differential is the 230's most outstanding feature, and it sets it apart from the competition. It's comparable to a Haldex four-wheel drive system in vehicles like the Volkswagen Golf R, but with only two wheels (which are powered) driven at once.
With this new model, you will see the same changes made to the exterior. This means that there are added mouldings along with a more aggressive front bumper design. The rear spoiler is also included as standard on all models too, giving it a sporty look. To go with this boosted power though, Skoda has decided to use exclusively ultralight Nappa leather that has been given the name of Carbon Skin.
This new model will come with a three-year, 100,000-mile warranty as standard, while drivers can also expect to see added comfort and relaxation features in the form of an upgraded interior. There are even special carbon fibre inserts inside for added luxury. Of course, there will also be the new infotainment system, offering features like driver assistance systems that will see the car hands-free park itself into smaller spaces.
Skoda has also decided to give drivers two years of free satellite navigation as part of the value pack too. This is certainly a big step forward for Skoda and one that sees them grow even stronger.
With the Volkswagen group, of course, owning the Skoda brand, we will also see these same features carried forward to another model in the Golf GTI, which will also include brand new brakes. The updated Octavia vRS model becomes available from this June with a cost of £26,350.
