Your GAP Insurance cover is based on the car, not the registration plate.
Changing to a private plate does not reduce or alter your protection.
The policy will continue to protect you as long as the vehicle details remain the same.

What you need to do

Notify your GAP provider once the new private plate is registered with the DVLA.
Provide your new registration number so they can update your policy documents.
Keep a copy of confirmation in case you need to make a claim. For example, at Total Loss GAP we will issue a new Policy Schedule to reflect the change.

Fees and admin

Some providers may charge a small admin fee for updating the details. At Total Loss GAP, we do not charge for a number plate change.
Others include one or more free changes during the policy term.
