Do Admiral offer GAP Insurance? If not, are there any motor insurance companies that offer GAP insurance, or is it always sold independently?

GAP insurance and car insurance protect different aspects. Your car insurance protects you against minor damage and the cost involved when and if you cause an accident. It is also a legal requirement that, to be legal on UK roads, you must have a form of motor insurance.

Admiral, being predominantly a home and car insurance company, we believe that at present, they do not offer GAP insurance. In fact, as far as we are aware, there is no insurance company that will offer both.  (Please remember that Admiral and other motor insurance companies may not offer GAP insurance; however, you may still be covered with new for old style cover within the first one or in some cases 2 years).

We think that the reasons are self-evident. After all, when you think about it, when and if your vehicle is written off, it is your motor insurance company's responsibility to offer you the value of your vehicle on the day.  It is then your GAP insurance company's responsibility to top up their settlement, depending on the level of cover you have chosen. Or in the case of a total loss policy, whichever is the highest amount.

If your motor insurance company and your GAP insurance company were provided by the same company in this example, Admiral, then which bit of your policy would pay? After all, insurance companies are businesses, and they have to balance the books, so would the car insurance side pay more to keep the costs down, or would the GAP insurance side pay less?

By keeping everything separate and independent, everyone is responsible for paying their fair share, not a penny more and certainly not a penny less.

From your perspective, it makes no difference between your two insurance companies; the balance is the same regardless of who pays what.

Admiral is still pushing boundaries in innovation, with its car insurance and multi-car policies offering exceptional value for money.
