10 Fun facts about Mercedes-Benz: You did not know.

 

We all know The Brand name Mercedes-Benz comes from the founder Karl Benz and rival business owner Emil Jellinek's daughter Mercedes. The two companies merged in 1926, and Mercedes-Benz as we know it was formed.

 

But there are lots more interesting facts about the German manufacturer.

 

  1. The three points on the Mercedes Logo symbolise the three elements: air, sea, and water. All spaces that Mercedes engines were designed to conquer.
  2. AMG is now part of Mercedes- but it has had previous partnerships. One of which was with Mitsubishi. Together, they made the Mitsubishi EVO AMG. Unfortunately, only 500 cars were made, and they were all sold in Japan. 
  3. Globally, Mercedes sold 2,043,900 vehicles in 2022.
  4. Mercedes owns eight brands: Mercedes-Benz, Mercedes-AMG, Mercedes-Maybach, Mercedes me, Mercedes-Benz Bank, Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, and Athlon.
  5. The most expensive Mercedes ever sold was auctioned at a private auction at Sohterbys in 2022. It was the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe, and it sold for the eye-watering price of $142,917,750, which as of today( 20/09/2023 ) based on current exchange rates is equivalent to £115,537,167.29 sterling.
  6. The Mercedes GLC is the UK's best-selling model, with 342,900 cars sold in 2022.
  7. Auto Trader shows that Mercedes currently offers 29 different models.
  8. Mercedes was the 1st company to patent the automobile in 1885.
  9. Mercedes was light years ahead of the competition and produced the first hybrid car, gasoline and electric, in 1906. This was subsequently dropped in favour of entirely gasoline-fossil fuel-powered vehicles.
  10. Anti-Locking Brakes ( ABS ) - Mercedes was the first to manufacture and fit ABD. Mercedes championed them and first provided them to the still iconic S class in 1978. 

 

Mercedes is now probing into the world of Artifical Integilance with cars soon to be launched with virtual assistants.

 

They have also collaborated with Will.i.am to produce a Mercedes Benz AMG that will react to how it is driven and raise the already impressive car entertainment systems to a stratospherically high level.
