Scratch & Dent Insurance | SMART Insurance | Cosmetic Repair Insurance

We all know how annoying getting a scratch or dent on your car is. When you come out of the supermarket car park and see a trolley ding on the side of your car or a bumper scuff as someone has nudged your vehicle when driving past, these tiny bits of damage can be unsightly and annoying. Or even if you have scrapped your car yourself. After all, no one is a perfect driver; we are all human and can make mistakes.

Total Loss Scratch and Dent Insurance Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is my Total loss Scratch and dent policy protected? - As long as you are not buying a scratch-and-dent policy for a car on behalf of a company with a turnover of over 2 million pounds, your policy is protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme.

  • How long is my policy for? - Your policy is for the entire period you have selected. For example, if you choose four years, your policy will last four years.

  • How many claims can you make? - Depending on the maximum number of claims you buy, you can make up to 3 or up to 6 claims per year. For example, if you bought a policy with up to 6 claims per year on March 28th, 2024, you could make up to 6 claims until March 28th, 2025. The number of claims would then reset on March 29th, 2025, and you would have up to another 6 claims available to make until March 29th, 2026.

  • Can I transfer my scratch and dent policy? - Yes, you can transfer your policy free of charge to your next eligible vehicle. The first policy transfer is completely free of charge. The second and any further transfers would cost £35.00 each.

  • Is there an excess to pay when you make a total loss scratch and dent claim?- No, there is no excess to pay when you make a claim.

  • Is the policy price an annual fee or the total cost for the entire period? - As long as you have selected the number of years you want to buy, the premium shown is the total price for the entire period.

  • Will my Scratch and Dent insurance cover damage to my bonnet or roof? - It's important to note that most scratch-and-dent policies, including yours, won't cover damage to your roof or bonnet. This is because restoring the paintwork to its original factory finish, as in the case of stone chips on your bonnet, would require a full respray. To ensure a perfect paint match, parts of the front wings and even the front bumper might need to be sprayed, too.

  • Will my scratch and dent policy cover me in the EU? - Regrettably, your policy is limited to covering damage that occurs within the United Kingdom. It's important to be aware of this when considering your coverage.

  • What happens if the claims team is unavailable, for example, I scratch my car on a Sunday? - If you encounter a scratch or dent on a day when the claims team is unavailable, such as a Sunday, it won't hinder your ability to drive your car. Simply reach out to the claims team on Monday morning, and they will promptly process your claim.
